BBC Online TV licensing

TV licensing changes: BBC iPlayer no longer free

What’s changing?

From 1 September 2016 you will need a TV Licence to watch BBC programmes on iPlayer. This includes programmes you download or watch live on any device, including your mobile phone, desktop computer, or games console.

The Licence fee is £145.50 a year in the UK, and helps to fund the BBC’s public service broadcasting. This includes TV, radio, and online services.

What if I don’t have a TV Licence?

If you don’t have a TV Licence, you could be fined up to £1,000. You can buy a TV Licence online, by phone, or in person at a Post Office.

How do I get a TV Licence?

You can buy a TV Licence online, by phone, or in person at a Post Office. You will need to provide your name, address, and date of birth. You can also buy a TV Licence for someone else, but you will need their permission first.

What if I have a question about my TV Licence?

If you have any questions about your TV Licence, you can contact TV Licensing on 0300 790 6117.
